Explore the old town area of Nara
A lot of old Japanese buildings in Nara have been turned into shops and cafes that now line the streets. You can find many shopping streets such as the popular Higashimuki or Shimomikado.
The shopping streets have a lot to see, from local stores to quaint craft shops and fancy cafes. One recommended snack is Japanese mochi, which you can find at many shops including the very crowded Nakatanindou sweets shop. The length of the queue here is insane, but the line also moves quickly as the shopkeepers certainly deal with a large crowd every day.
The mochi is extremely soft and with a slightly sweet taste, a high quality mochi indeed.
